The formation of a centralized Department of Economic Development in 2001 exemplifies the Village’s on-going
concern for and commitment to the development and preservation of quality affordable housing that is desirable for all its residents.
To carry out this mission, the Department provides professional and technical staff resources to advise, inspect and enforce Village & State codes and administration for
housing programs and activities. Housing-related programs and services are assigned to six functional components within the Division:
Housing development - The Neighborhood Services Coordinator is responsible for the administration of programs and activities directed at improving the older neighborhoods and aging housing stock. Also, for the creation of decent affordable housing for lower income households and persons having special needs. This is accomplished in large part by building public/private-housing partnerships between non-profit organizations.
First Time Homebuyer’s Program (FAP) - Referrals are made to Stern Brothers to offer the assist program
Storm Water Management Referral - The Village contacts the Lake County Water Management department with referrals and assistance to locate properties within Round Lake Beach that are in a flood plain area. Storm Water Management will provide the grant for acquisition and demolition of the area properties.
Home Acquisition and Rehabilitation Program (HARP) - The purchase of vacant or foreclosed homes for rehabilitation to sale is the primary service provided through this program. The homes have usually sat vacant for a year or more because of abandonment, and the Village is maintaining the property on a complaint basis, charging the repairs to property. Homes renovated through this program will generally be in need of substantial rehabilitation.
The Neighborhood Vacant Home Acquisition and Rehabilitation Project (HARP)
is seeking potential homebuyers. You must meet the 80% median HUD income
guidelines and participate in a homeownership-counseling program.

The Paint Program - The village works with the YMCA to provide youth to paint the exterior of a house located in Round Lake Beach.
Rebuilding Together - The village refers residents to the North suburban Chicago Rebuilding Together program that is designed to provide low income, handicapped or seniors with volunteers to complete rehab work to their homes each year usually the last Saturday in April.
Beautify the Beach Beautification Program - The village contacts the Lake County Workforce Development Step Program to request youth work in the village supervised by the Public Works department. The youth clean up areas throughout the village along with planting flowers and maintaining flowers at the “Welcome to the Village of Round Lake Beach” entrance signs.
Leadership Program -
