The Village’s building permit process can be summarized in these steps:
- Obtain a permit application at the Economic Development Department or download a copy by Clicking Here (Permit Form Available in PDF format).
- Return the completed application with the required plans and plats of survey. Both the owner and the contractor must sign the application. The counter staff will check the application for completeness. All contractors must be currently licensed and bonded with the Village at the time of submittal.
- Staff will review the plans. Small projects such as garages, fences, and decks can be reviewed and permits issued within a few working days. Larger projects will take approximately ten working days. Commercial projects may require approval by the
Planning & Zoning Commission and Village Board prior to issuance of a building permit. See the commercial building packet for details on commercial projects.
- Once a permit has been issued, permitted work may begin. Please display the issued permit placard in a street-facing window or other location where it can be easily viewed from the street.
- Call for inspections. All inspection requests are to be made at least 24 hours in advance. They are required to assure that the construction is completed according to Village Code and the approved plans. It is your responsibility to schedule all required inspections during and after construction.
