Beach Bulletin Vol 8 No. 6 - November 2004
County breaks ground for new traffic court in Round Lake Beach
Ground breaking for the North Branch Traffic Court building
took place recently in Round Lake Beach. The new building
will be located on Nicole Lane north of Rollins Road and east
of Cedar Lake Road. The 9,080 square-foot facility will
include one courtroom, a multi-purpose room and a circuit
clerk office. It is should be completed in the spring of 2005.
"The new courthouse will be an asset to Round Lake Beach,"
said Mayor Rich Hill. "It will save time for residents of the
area when they have to appear in court for a traffic violation,
and it will save time and money for area police departments."
In addition to the Round Lake area, the court will serve
surrounding villages including Antioch, Fox Lake, Hainesville,
Lake Villa, Lakemoor, Lindenhurst as well as the Lake County
Forest Preserve District and the Lake County sheriff's office.
Senior Homestead exemption renewed automatically
Lake County homeowners who currently receive a Senior Homestead exemption on their tax bill are no longer required to reapply yearly for the exemption. It automatically will be renewed each year.
First time qualification for the Senior Homestead Exemption still requires an application before a senior citizen homeowner qualifies for the automatic renewal. The Senior Homestead Exemption lowers the equalized assessed value of your property by $3,000 and may be claimed in addition to the Homestead Limited Exemption. To receive the Senior Homestead exemption, you must:
- have lived on the property on or before January 1st of the tax year.
- have reached age 65 during the tax year.
- applied for the exemption at the Township Assessor's Office.
You will need to bring a copy of the property deed (or trust documents) and show proof of age when you apply.
- The automatic renewal only applies to the Senior Homestead exemption.
Annual application is still required for all other exemptions including the Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze Homestead exemption. Visit www.co.lake.il.us/assessor for more information.

News from the Mayor
"Surf" Round Lake Beach"
Our web site www.villageofroundlakebeach.com has grown to over 200 pages. Watch for our newest addition, an enrollment page to receive agendas and
other important information through e-mail on a weekly basis. Please enroll ASAP to take advantage of this new communication to our residents.
As we head into the Holiday season, it is important that we remember the need to shop locally. We have a
great selection of stores for almost any need. By shopping locally you create jobs for our residents, the business creates a tax base for our schools, park district, etc., and the village receives the sales tax revenue. Without the
sales tax revenue the village would either have to reduce services (cut public works, police, etc.) or raise property taxes,
which none of us wants to do. You also save yourself time in travel and help preserve our environment by driving less, thus using less fuel.
Have a safe and memorable holiday season with your family and friends!!!
Village wins Innovation Award
The Village of Round Lake Beach received the LocalGovNews.org Innovation Award for the Housing Acquisition and Rehabilitation Program (HARP). Through HARP the Village of Round Lake Beach purchases homes that are unoccupied and are creating an eyesore in the neighborhood, rehabs them and sells them.
"This program takes a problem house and returns it back to the tax rolls by rehabbing and
selling it," said Mayor Rich Hill. "We believe this has a positive impact on the entire neighborhood."
Acccording to LocalGov.org, the Award recognizes and celebrates the ingenuity, resourcefulness, and self-reliance
of local organizations and, most importantly, assists in the sharing of that expertise and experience.
First-time home buying within reach
As mortgage rates remain low, first-time home buyers have a unique opportunity. Through a special loan program, coordinated by the Village of Round Lake Beach and the Illinois Housing Development Authority, first-time home buyers may purchase single-family homes, condos, townhouses, and multi-unit flats as long as the buyer lives in the home or one of the flats.
First-time home buyers are those who haven't owned a home in the last three years and meet other requirements. Want more information? Please call Jeneen Smith-Underwood at (847) 546-2351, ext. 353, or check out the web site at www.ihda.org.
For your information
Snow plowing
When it starts snowing, please do not throw snow from your property into the plowed streets. This can create a hazardous condition. When shoveling or plowing snow from your property, please pile it to the left side of your drive (when facing your house). This will help prevent snow from accumulating back on your driveway when snow plows come through the streets.
Residents may not park on any village street when there are two or more inches of snow on the ground. This ban is in effect for eight hours after a snowfall or until streets have been plowed.
Remember parking is not permitted on Village streets from 2:00 to 6:00 am at any time of the year
Smoke alarms
The fall is a good time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms. A good way to remind yourself to change them is to do it when the clocks go back in the fall and when they move ahead in the spring.
Yard waste
Yard waste will be collected on the same day as your regular trash pickup until the last week in November. Stickers for the brown bags are available at the Village Hall, Ace and Jewel for $1.75 each bag.
