Village of Round Lake Beach - Beach Bulletin
Beach Bulletin Vol 7 No. 6
November 2003
Third vacant house renovated and sold
Renovating vacant eyesores benefits the entire neighborhood and raises property values of surrounding homes. That's the philosophy behind Round Lake Beach's Neighborhood Rehabilitation Program
The third house in this
innovative program has been sold, and the Village is considering purchasing another house.
One of the added benefits to this program is that it inspires surrounding homeowners to spruce up their own property.
Village officials believe this program has been a resounding success. As with the past two houses, the village received many phone calls from individuals interested in purchasing the newly-renovated house.
The house at 1312 Beverly was the third structure renovated and sold in the Beach's Neighborhood Rehabilitation Program.
Village Tree Lighting

Carolers, hot chocolate and cookies. Please bring nonperishable food items to be donated to local pantries.
No parking during snowfall
In the winter, parking on the streets can cause problems during snow removal. Please remember there is no parking on Village streets at any time of the year from 2:00 am to 6:00 am.
When there is a snowfall of more than two inches, please don't park on the streets. Give the public works department the opportunity to plow. If the snow hasn't been removed, please continue no parking restrictions until snow removal has been completed.
Please do not park in the ditch lines at any time.
Snow plowing
When it snows, and you know it will, please do not throw snow from your property into the streets. This can create a
hazardous condition. When shoveling or plowing snow from your driveway, pile it to the
left side of your drive (when facing your house). This prevents snow from accumulating again on your driveway when snow plows come through neighborhoods.
News from the Mayor
Shopping locally benefits the community
As we head into the Holiday season, it is important for residents to shop locally. We have a great selection of
stores for almost any need. By shopping locally you create jobs for our residents, plus the business creates a tax base for our schools, park district, and library, and the Village receives the sales tax revenue.
Without the sales tax revenue, the Village would either have to reduce services (such as cutting public works or police) or raise property taxes, which none of us wants to do. You also save yourself time in travel and help preserve our environment by driving less, thus using less fuel.
Join us on November 28, for the Holiday tree lighting ceremony at our new location. We will be lighting a tree in front of the new Village Hall, but we also will light the tree in the Memorial Park across from the old Village Hall.
Have a safe and memorable holiday season with your family and friends!!!
From the Police Department
Holiday shopping safety tips With the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping occupying your
mind, it's easy to be careless and not keep track of your belongings.
Round Lake Beach Police Chief Larsson recommends a few safety tips while holiday shopping.
Do not leave your purse or wallet unattended in a shopping cart.
Be sure you receive your credit card back after making a credit card purchase.
Take your purchasesto your car at one time. Thieves watch people loading their cars and then going back into a store to shop.
Do not leave bags or wrapped gifts in view in your car. Store them in the trunk.
In your home, be sure to bring all parcels and packages into your house from your car. Wrapped packages or bags left in the plain view with an open garage door invite theft.

For your information
No leaf burning Just a friendly reminder: there is no leaf burning in
the Village of Round Lake Beach. Yard waste must be in cans marked yard waste or yard waste bags.
It is picked up on your regular trash collection day. Yard waste stickers are available at the Village
Hall, Ace Hardware or Jewel food stores for $1.75 each. You are allowed six bags or cans per week. Please do not fill bags or cans with more
than 50 pounds. Yard waste will be picked up weekly until the last week of November. Leaves also make great mulch and can be added to compost.
Obstructions and mailboxes During this time of the year it's important for residents to think of
snowplow safety. Basketball backboards placed in the right of way create a problem for snow plow drivers during snow removal operations. Please remove backboards as soon as possible.
Mail boxes located too close to the roadway must be relocated to
meet postal regulations. The face of the mailbox must be at least eight inches from the edge of the pavement or curb. Posts may be set farther
back. Please be sure your mailbox is securely fastened to the post so snow plows or snow mounds do not dislodge the mailbox.
