Festivities begin on Friday at Country Music Night from 4:00 to 11:00 pm. First up is a high energy performance by Kalii from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Then enjoy Big John Howell and the Born to Boogie Band for a wide range of music including country, country-rock, western and some good ole rock 'n' roll.

On Saturday Beach Fest opens at noon with family activities and the continuing carnival. Then beginning at 5:00 pm it's Rock 'n' Roll Band Night.

For your information

Mosquito abatement
After the heavy rains of May, it's no wonder there is a bumper crop of mosquitos. The good news is, so far, they are not the West Nile virus-carrying type, but just plain old flood water mosquitos. As part of a continuing effort to control mosquitos, the Village has contracted with Clarke Mosquito Management to spray.

Area residents should eliminate stagnant water in birdbaths, ponds, flower pots (even the saucers), wading pools, tires and other receptacles in which mosquitos breed. Avoid being outdoors at dawn and dusk when mosquitos are most active.

Dollars for Scholars
This year's Round Lake Beach scholarship recipients from the Dollars for Scholars program were Jeffrey Finalyson, OluFemi Johnson and Brianna Jackson. Jeffrey is a graduate of Carmel High School and he will be attending Loyola University. OluFemi is a graduate of Grayslake High School and will be attending the University of Illinois in Champaign. Brianna is a graduate of Round Lake High School and will be attending the University of Illinois in Chicago.

Award Award for program
The Village of Round Lake Beach received the 2004 Illinois Chapter American Planning Association award for the implementation of the Neighborhood Vacant Home Acquisition and Rehabilitation Program (HARP). Economic Development Director Tony Fradin (pictured above left) and Jeneen Smith-Underwood (right) accepted the award.

Construction season
Infrastructure improvements will be the order of the day this summer around the Beach. Among the west side projects will be finishing water mains, curbs and gutters on Juneway Terrace from Oakwood to Hawthorne. New water main, curb, gutter and sanitary rehabilitation work will begin on Pleasant from Rollins to Oakwood and on Clarendon from North Channel to Woodland. Motor fuel taxes will be used to patch, resurface and make curb and gutter repairs in the Eagle Creek subdivision. This includes Carl Dr., Carl Ct., Christopher Ct., Mary Ct., Yvonne Ct., and Sprucewood Lane.

In the Country Walk subdivision ongoing repairs will be made to sidewalks, curbs and streets on Rosewood Lane from Orchard to Sunrise. Hook Drive will be closed at Rollins Road for repairs. Meadowgreen Lane will have a complete new road with curbs and gutters.

Before you dig
Planning outdoor projects? Call J.U.L.I.E. at (800) 892-0123 before you dig. Utility companies will mark your property so you can dig safely.

Exterior painting
Need help with exterior painting of your property? Residents performing community service under the supervision of the police department can paint exteriors for qualified property owners. Please call Jeneen at (847) 546-2351, ext. 353 for more information.

A water quality report for residents is included with this newsletter.

From the Police Department

Officer Peters Officer Peters receives drug enforcement award
Officer Brain Peters, a 12-year veteran of the Round Lake Beach Police Department received an award from the Metro Enforcement Group (MEG) for his active arrest record. He joined MEG, the Lake County undercover drug task force, in 1999 and made over 625 arrests during his time on the unit. He is the highest producer of narcotics-related arrests in Lake County-MEG history.

Officer Peters was rotated back to patrol duties as part of the normal police duty cycle in Round Lake Beach.

"Brian is the truest example of dedication to the cause of narcotics-abuse reduction," said Chief Doug Larsson. "I am very proud to be associated with him. He comes back to us with a degree of expertise and competency that will pay dividends for the community."

Haley Generous heart
Young Round Lake Beach resident Haley Smith knows the importance of giving back to the community. For her seventh birthday, she asked her friends to bring teddy bears to her party instead of gifts for her. Then she donated the entire box of stuffed teddy bears to the Police Department to be used by them to comfort local children.
National Night Out
Save August 3 for National Night Out. Residents will walk through the neighborhoods (route to be determined) and finish at the lakefront for a cookout. Watch for more details.
