Rich Hill News from the Mayor
Volunteers need for Events Committee
There's much to do in Round Lake Beach this summer. Residents are invited to the Round Lake Beach lakefront dedication ceremony on Saturday, July 26, at 9:00 am. The lakefront park has been renovated by grants from the Department of National Resources. After the dedication, the Round Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and the Round Lake Area Park District are sponsoring a new event - canoe races. There will be different race categories.

On Saturday, August 2, The Village Spirit Pub will host its annual Music Fest from 2:00 - 11:00 pm. Funds raised have been used to support the music program at Round Lake High School. In the past two years, over $4,300 has been raised.

As you can see there are many events planned in our community. That's why I am organizing an Events Committee to help plan events such as the National Night Out, Holiday Tree Lighting, and the Village's first annual Summer Days. If you are interested in serving on the committee, please leave me a message at (847) 546-2351, ext. 237.

From the Police Department - Phone scams, seat belts and water safety

Area code scam
If you receive a messageon your answering machine that tells you to return a call to area code 809 for important information, be aware that this could be a scam. The 809 area code is located in the British Virgin Islands, and unless you know someone who lives there, don't return the call. It could end up costing you a bundle.

Click it or Ticket it.
Police departments throughout the state are enforcing the seat belt law. If you are stopped for any reason and you do not have your seat belt buckled, you may get a ticket. Wear your seat belt every time you get in the car. It is the law in Illinois.

Water safety
Summer's here and swimming pools beckon. Be sure to keep your eye on children around pools, lakes and other bodies of water.

Rebuilding Together Program Rebuilding Together Program aids family
On Saturday, April 26, the Village of Round Lake Beach participated in the Rebuilding Together Program (formerly called Christmas in April). Using donations and volunteers, the program renovates homes of seniors or low-income families every year. This year about 25 volunteers, including Round Lake Beach staff and residents, Baxte employees, and New Trier High School students, assisted the homeowners with renovations such as painting, replacing a kitchen floor and repairing stairs. - Above - Volunteers helped renovate a home on S. Channel Dr. in Round Lake Beach

For your information

Need tree mulch?
The Public Works department trims trees around stop signs to improve visibility at intersections. Those trimmed branches are chipped into mulch which is available to Round Lake Beach residents. Bring your own container and shovel, and pick up the mulch on the east side of the Public Works building, 911 Lotus Drive near Sunset Drive.

Cobs are free and they come in five-pound bags. They are available at the Public Works building, which is open Monday-Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. The corncobs are also available for free at Ace Hardware.

First-time home buyers
Through a special loan program, which is a cooperative venture between the Village of Round Lake Beach and the Illinois Housing Development Authority, first-time home buyers may purchase single-family homes, condos, townhouses, and multiple-flat units as long as the buyer lives in the home or one of the flats.

First-time home buyers are those who haven't owned a home of their own in the last three years and meet other requirements.
