News from the Mayor
Round Lake Beach has much to offer
As April showers bring May flowers to brighten our community, I’d like to remind residents to keep their property in good order. Keeping your grass mowed and your home in good repair shows respect for your property and your neighbors. If we want to continue to improve the image of our community, this is a great way to start.
We have much to offer residents in Round Lake Beach a shopping district filled with every store imaginable that’s the envy of surrounding communitie. Round Lake Beach residents can enjoy a renovated lakefront park on Round Lake, and the Hook Lake recreational amenities
such as the new bicycle path, BMX track, skate park, accessible fishing pier and non-motorized
boat launch. Soon the Park District will begin construction of its 40,000 square foot indoor athletic facility.
On the personal side, I would like to thank all the candidates in the primary for getting involved. A community is measured by the involvement of its residents. It’s gratifying to see so many
people involved in various capacities in the community.
Round Lake Beach, in partnership with the Round Lake Area Park District and the Round Lake Area Chamber of
Commerce, is organizing its first annual summer festival on Friday, July 9 and Saturday, July 10. There will be music, food
and entertainment at the summer festival, which will be held at Hook Lake.
If you are interested in volunteering your time for the event, please leave a message with the Deputy Clerk at (847) 546-2351 and someone from the committee will contact you. It’s going to be a great time!
Bond rating rises
Good news! The Village's bonding rating has been upgraded to A2 by Moody's Investors Services. Sound financial planning and conservative budgeting practices by the Village and a rapidly growing commercial base have contributed to the higher rating.
Painting program aids resident
When Susan Krook found herself unable to repaint her garage after a maintenance code violation, the Village of Round Lake Beach provided the manpower to do it for her.
"I am so grateful to have my garage repainted," Susan said. "It is a wonderful gift."
This project was made possible by a grant from United Way, which paid for painting supplies. The actual work was completed through community service hours coordinated by the police department.
"One young guy was so meticulous about painting and he wanted to do a good job," she said. "This is a 'win-win' situation for everyone involved."
Residents who might need assistance can call Jeneen Smith-Underwood at (847) 546-2351, ext. 353 for more information.

Holiday lights
Unless you're celebrating Christmas in the middle of the summer, holiday lights and decorations
need to be removed The Village ordinance states lights are permitted for a
period not to exceed 90 days after Christmas. It's time to take down the holiday lights.
Drive safely
With the weather changing, there will be more children outdoors on bikes, skateboards and
skates. Motorists are asked to use caution when driving through neighborhoods.
Wood chips
During the spring and summer, public works department employees trim trees to improve visibility at intersections and around signs. Those
branches become wood chips available to Round Lake Beach residents. The chips are located on
the east side of the public works building at 911 Lotus Drive. Please bring your own shovel and containers.
Ditch and curb lines
To allow proper drainage of water, please maintain the ditch and curb line in front of your home. This includes mowing the grass and picking up debris that might block the flow of water. Also please don't park in the ditch line.
Yard waste
Yard waste pickup begins April 30 and runs until mid November.
Bike registration
Bicycle owners may register their bikes at the Police station. Bring the serial number and a description of the bike to register.
Grass reminder
Property maintenance inspectors will be citing property owners whose grass is overgrown (eight inches or more). If you own property or a vacant lot in Round Lake Beach, make sure grass or weeds do not exceed eight inches in height.
What a drip!
Water dripping from a faucet at five drops per second can waste up to 43 gallons of water every day. To make sure your home doesn't have hidden leaks, check your water meter by turning off your faucets and
recording the measurement on your meter. Check the meter in 30 minutes. If the reading has changed, you have a leak somewhere. Check the toilet first because that's the most
likely place for a leak. In the past toilet bowls used three to five gallons for each flush cycle. Today's toilets use about 1.6 gallons. Replace an outdated toilet and save money.
Administrative Adjudication hearings
The Village's property maintenance staff has begun issuing orders to remedy minor property maintenance code violations to property
owners. To be sure violations are remedied, the Village will be introducing Administrative Adjudication hearings.
At the hearing, it will be determined whether the property owner has
remedied the alleged violation and is in compliance. Attendance is mandatory, Failure to attend may lead to fines. If the violation has been
remedied before the date of the hearing, the property owner should contact the Economic Development department
for a reinspection. Hearings are held on the first and third Thursdays of the month at 5:30 pm in the Village Hall.
