Rich Hill News from the Mayor
New Village Hall opens in March
Mark your calendar for the first Village Board meeting in the new Village Hall on Monday, March 10. The new Village Hall has 20,000 square feet, which is considerably larger than the 8,500 square feet in the old building. The lower level will house the building department and two community rooms. The upper level will house administrative staff.

An Open House and tours of the facility will be held on Monday, March 10, from 5:00 to 6:30 pm. All residents are invited.

In other news, we are still working with the county on a site for a new courthouse in the Round Lake area. Right now, there are two sites on which they are negotiating, and hopefully, within the next two months, they will have a site chosen and begin to build.

We are also excited about the upcoming construction of a second Community Center by the Round Lake Area Park District. The new building will be located across the street from our new Village Hall on Municipal Way. Ground breaking should take place this summer.

Also last year we received a $500,000 Open Spaces Land Acquisition and Development grant. With the OSLAD money, we purchased open space adjacent to the lakefront. We hope to include a walking path, barbecue grills and a bridge to connect the areas.

Chamber of Commerce Meeting
Mayor Rich Hill explains plans for additional renovations
at the lakefront to Chamber members.

Tornado sirens
March is Tornado Awareness Month and the beginning of the severe weather season. Public warning sirens are tested on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00 am. The Beach uses two warning siren sounds to alert residents of approaching severe weather.

Long steady siren lasting three to five minutes indicates conditions are right for a tornado and severe weather is approaching the Round Lake area. Residents should prepare to take cover.

Oscillating (up and down) siren lasting three to five minutes indicates a tornado has been spotted. Take cover immediately. The best place to take cover is in a basement or a small interior room under something sturdy. If caught outside, try to find a low ditch or ravine.

The two sirens in the northern portion of the Village have the capability to broadcast voice instructions. All sirens have a solar panel backup enabling them to function in the event of a power outage.

From the Police Department

Emergency lights available
In an emergency, every second counts. That's why having an emergency warning porch light is a benefit to residents. The Round Lake Beach Police Department offers this special bulb for $5.

When switched on once, the bulb operates like a normal light bulb. When switched on twice, it produces a nonstop flashing light until someone turns it off. It can be used to signal an emergency inside the home. Ideal for seniors or those living alone, the light bulb is available at the Police Station

Warm weather and children
With the coming of warmer weather, neighborhood children will be outside riding bikes, skateboarding or roller skating. Please be aware of children when you are driving especially in neighborhoods that do not have sidewalks.
